Nestled amidst what has emerged as the downtown after dark scene in Waco lies the newest addition to Texas entertainment adjacent to the Brazos.

“It’s hard to say ‘nestled’ when you’re talking about over 12,000 square feet,” says operations manager Ralph Thompson, “but here we are between other great buildings and great names: Crickets, Diamond Back’s and Ninfa’s!”

115 Mary is the technical address and home of “One Giant 2-step for Mankind” but University Parks and Franklin are actually the streets bathed in the bright yellow glow of the Wild West neon. They also are the corner that hosts the front doors of the $500,000 interior.

“2-Steppin’ & Long-neckin’ is our motto,” says Thompson and judging by the largest country dance floor in the area, he is dead on. Open Thursday through Saturday, Wild West features 4 full service bars, a solid oak dance floor and over 8,000 watts of clean, crisp sound originating from a state of the art computer system.

Thursday nights are a hit with students as Wild West aims to be location central for blowing off steam and stress created by the likes of too much studying and too many books.

Meanwhile, weekends will cater, as country music always does to those young and young at heart. “We will play the great classics that appeal to you if you are 18, 81 or anywhere in between,” says DJ Bryan. “The greatest thing about country music is it transcends generations.”
